The Magic of Camp Engies!

Camp Engies Hosted 145 Girls in grades 5-8

June 8 was an early day, up at 5:30 am and heading to a bus leaving from a hotel off Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto that was going to the Tamarack Adventure Centre in Bracebridge, ON, Canada. This wasn’t any hotel, this was where hundreds of refugees have been living and about 20 of the girls would be joining another 125 girls in grades 5 – 8 at a magical place called CAMP ENGIES!

Cassondra Fonseca, Camp Engies Founder

Camp Engies is founded by Cassondra Fonseca, P.Eng. and Queen's University graduate who is a Project Engineer at Hydro One. Words cannot describe this powerhouse of a woman who organizes literally the best STEM Camp I have ever attended. Cassondra’s passion to share engineering path with you girls is remarkable and so inspiring!

Camp Engies

Camp Engies is a not-for-profit run by women in engineering from across Ontario! It is a two day, one night engineering camp in beautiful Muskoka that costs only $60 for the girls that attend.

Engineering Boat Challenge - Camp Engies

I was fortunate enough to be asked to present an engineering workshop at the camp, each workshop was 1 hour 15 minutes in length and 4 rotations of 36 girls. The challenge was to use only the materials provided and build a boat that would hold the most golf balls using engineering design principles.

Camp Engies Winners!

It was so much fun! I loved the campers, the camp counselors, the inspiring speakers and most of all, CASSONDRA.

Cassondra, you lifted every single camper up and I can’t wait to see the impact of Camp Engies on their future STEM path.

PS: Happy Birthday, Cassondra!
